SASCOF (JJAS 2022) - Rainfall - Chart Description
In JJAS, many countries in SASCOF will be at planting (Afghanistan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan) for the rice crop.
For rice crop at planting stage, above normal precipitation which may result in heavy rainfall on freshly seeded fields may cause poor seed distribution, germination, and emergence.
For rice crop at mid-season stage, below normal precipitation may lead to water constraints for Yala rice and reduce the extent of its cultivation.
Please see the Methodology for documentation of crop calendar and hazard affecting crops in SASCOF members.

In JJAS, many countries in SASCOF will be at harvest (Bhutan), mid-season (Nepal) and planting (India, Myanmar, Pakistan) season for the corn crop.
For corn crop at harvest stage, above normal precipitation during the maturity and harvesting period may cause negative impact on maintaining grain quality.
For corn crop at, mid-season stage, below normal precipitation may affect corn growth, especially for rain-fed crops. In the case of India, approximately 80% of wet-season maize areas are rain-fed.
For corn crop at planting stage, above normal precipitation causing soil to become cool and wet can expose the corn seed to high stress.
Please see the Methodology for documentation of crop calendar and hazard affecting crops in SASCOF members.
