Chart Descriptions

Rice Production

In JJA, many countries in ASEANCOF will be at planting (Indonesia,  Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam), mid-term (Philippines, Thailand ) for the rice crop.

For rice crop at planting stage, below normal precipitation may result in drought which harms the germination process by preventing seeds from absorbing enough water and weaken the seedlings.

For rice crop at mid-season stage, below normal precipitation and stress on availability of water may lead to salinization of the soil which affects rice growth.

For rice crop at harvest stage, below normal precipitation may lead to a drought, which may delay rice plants heading date and reduce the crop yield.

Please see the Methodology for documentation of crop calendar and hazard affecting crops in ASEANCOF members.

Maize Production

chart_agriculture

In JJA, many countries in ASEANCOF will be at planting (Myanmar, Thailand), mid-season (Philippines) or harvest (Vietnam) season for the corn crop.

For corn crop at planting stage, below normal precipitation may cause the soil to become too dry and cause uneven germination time for corn seeds.

For corn crop at mid-season stage, above normal precipitation may lead to drought stress and in turn reduce corn yields. Above normal precipitation may reduce nitrogen fertilizer levels in the soil, which may affect corn growth.

For corn crop at harvest stage, above/below normal precipitation can alter the climate-yield relationship and potentially increase the risk of maize yield reduction.

Please see the Methodology for documentation of crop calendar and hazard affecting crops in ASEANCOF members.
